Wood chips for energy production. Technology - environment - economy

It is stated that Danish politicians increasingly recognize the advantages of exploiting forest resources, but there are still obstacles that stand in the way of total utilization. Currently there are 25 wood-chip fired district heating plants in Denmark. There is an increasing number of wood-chipped fired plants in operation in institutions and there are about 25 previously coal-fired plants that have been converted during the last five years to the use of wood pellets made from dry wood waste. Danish energy policy continues to focus on cogeneration plants because of environmental factors. The document presents information on available wood chip quantities, on the handling of this type of fuel, its use in district heating and cogeneration plants and technological, economical and environmental aspects.
