Unusual initial and final state effects in quantum chromodynamics. Annual progress report, December 18, 1992--December 20, 1993

The author has constructed a number of fundamental tests which can be used to probe discrete symmetries, and their possible violations, in the required (open quotes)new physics(close quotes) beyond the standard model. On-going experiments with unpolarized e(sup (minus)) e(sup +) collisions contain many events for the production-decay sequence e(sup (minus))e(sup +) (yields) Z(sup o), (gamma)(sup *) (yields) (tau)(sup (minus))(tau)(sup +) (yields) (A(sup (minus))X)(B(sup +)X). By inclusion of (rho) polarimetry observables such experiments enable two distinct tests for leptonic CP violation in (tau) (yields) (rho)(nu) decay (similarly in (tau) (yields) a(sub 1)(nu) decay) by generalization of the energy correlation function for Z(sup o), or (gamma)(sup *) (yields) (tau)(sup (minus))(tau)(sup +) (yields)((rho)(sup (minus))(nu))((rho)(sup +)(bar (nu))). In other research programs, the author is (i) continuing to investigate the proposal that partons be identified with nearly degenerate, coherent quark-gluon (open quotes)jet(close quotes) states, and is (ii) investigating the novel consequences of the possible existence of q-bosons and of a related completeness relation for the q-analogue coherent states. This year the author has also written papers on the zeros of the q-analogue exponential function, and on the number and phase uncertainties of the q-analogue quantized field.
