The hydrotreatment of naphtha derived from the Illinois No. 6 coal has been carried out over supported transition metal sulfide catalysts (Row 2 and 3). Ruthenium sulfide is the most active catalyst for both HDS and HDN and is much more active than supported molbdenum sulfide catalyst. A supported Ruthenium (5.1 wt.%) sulfide catalyst is more active than commercial Ni-Mo and Co-Mo catalysts for HDN and as active for HDS.
