Charm and strangeness of ultrarelativistic heavy ion collisions

Charmonium and strangeness production in collisions induced by ultrarelativistic sulfur or silicon ions is reviewed. A suppression of charmonium production and a strangeness enhancement are observed. Predicted as potential signatures of the quark gluon plasma formation, their interpretation is still very much debated.
