Structural analysis of oil wells with emphasis on conductor design

The thesis relates to the evaluation and improvement of methods for structural analysis of oil wells. Emphasis is made on conductor design. The new developments can be summarized as, design procedures, design formulas for stress- and stability checks of conductors exposed to dynamic hammer loads, design formulas for stress- and stability checks of oil wells exposed to various relevant static loads, an ''oil well element'' for numerical analysis, and various computer program modules, and the ''tailor-made'' program system Anaconda, for design of oil wells. The developed design formulas and program modules, bridge the gaps between design capabilities of existing ''tailor-made'' computer programs, general FEM programs, and design capabilities required for safe, practical and fairly optimal design of oil-wells. This bridge enables the structural engineer to follow a faster path in the efforts of achieving an optimal design, concerning conductor dimensions and guide spacings. 99 refs., 89 figs., 14 tabs.
