Technology risk assessment of foreign research reactor spent nuclear fuel dry storage

Westinghouse Savannah River Company (WSRC) conducted a technology risk assessment (TRA) which identified 36 risks associated with dry storage of Foreign Research Reactor (FRR) Spent Nuclear Fuel (SNF). This assessment was based on storage of the FRR SNF at the Savannah River Site (SRS), Aiken, South Carolina. These risks, which were identified in five functional areas, will be addressed in a multitude of mitigation efforts to ensure program mission objectives are not jeopardized. Many of the identified risks were determined to be applicable to any planned United States (US) Department of Energy (DOE) spent nuclear fuel dry storage mission.
