Environmental assessment for the transportation and disposal of Savannah River Site generated municipal solid waste at an off-site disposal facility

This Environmental Assessment (EA) has been prepared by the US DOE to assess the potential environmental impacts associated with a more cost-effective means to collect, remove, and dispose of the municipal solid waste generated by activities at the Savannah River Site (SRS) near Aiken, South Carolina. SRS personnel currently collect all site generated municipal solid waste in various types of containers. The waste is transported to the on-site Interim Sanitary Landfill. DOE proposes to curtail operation of the Interim Sanitary Landfill and award a subcontract for the removal of all permitted nonhazardous, nonradiological municipal solid wastes. These wastes would be transported to a permitted municipal solid waste disposal facility.
