ESPC Overview: Cash Flows, Scenarios, and Associated Diagrams for Energy Savings Performance Contracts

Energy savings performance contracting is a method for making capital improvements to existing facilities by using guaranteed energy and operational savings to pay for the upgrades. Savings can be generated from use reduction in electricity, heating fuels (e.g., natural gas, propane, fuel oil, etc.), water and/or wastewater. An energy savings performance contract (ESPC) is an agreement between an energy services company (ESCO) and a building owner, whereby the ESCO performs a detailed assessment of the facility and identifies a list of energy and water conservation measures (ECMs), and the building owner selects the best combination of ECMs to implement that meets his/her operational needs.
