Investigation of fuel behaviour at different power levels (SKI-bump II). Final report

Fuel microstructure and fission product redistribution in the fuel and to the cladding inside were studied after a 'bump' irradiation of a high burnup rod up to maximum Linear Heat Rating (LHR) of 43 kW/m. Fission gas induced swelling of the fuel imposed a large strain on the cladding. Total gas release in the rod as well as the local release at two different LHRs were measured. Reference fuel not subject to the bump was examined with the same techniques as the bumped fuel. (Atomindex citation 26:041501)
