摘要

This study evaluated the rate of degradation of polydimethylsiloxane fluid from various soil samples (Iowa, muffled Iowa, and Michigan sand). The test substance was extracted using methylisobutylketone with initial recovery (day 0) varying from 81 to 88 percent. No differences were observed in samples placed on glass versus plastic sheets. Samples were analyzed using atomic absorption silicon analyses. The test substance was found to degrade much slower on sand as compared to Iowa soil. Iowa soil baked at 700 to 800 degrees C for 16 hours (muffled) was inactive and no degradation of test substance occurred over a 72 day period.
