Developments of compact permanent magnet ECRIS

A brief description of several Electron Cyclotron Resonance (ECR) devices for use in special environments is made. The latest results obtained with the first prototype of ultra compact ECRIS: NANOGAN(sup TM) 10 GHz, are described and efforts accomplished in order to optimise the functioning of permanent magnet machines are shown, especially using a frequency tunable UHF transmitter in place of the tunable magnetic field found on classical ECRIS. Finally the new versions of NANOGAN(sup TM) developed at GANIL for use as radioactive ion beam (RIB) production system of low lifetime nuclei are described. (author). 7 refs.
