摘要

The articles collected in this volume were presented at the 2nd Colloquium on Process Simulation held at Helsinki University of Technology, Espoo, Finland, June 6-8, 1995. The processes for producing chemicals, energy, and materials encounter environmental concern and laws which challenge engineers to develop the processes towards more efficient, economical and safe operation. A more thorough understanding of the processes and phenomena involved is necessary. Formerly, the development of the processes was largely based on trial and error, whereas today, the development of computer performance together with the diversification of modelling software enables simulation of the processes. The increased capacity and possibilities for modelling the processes brought by the improved hardware and software, have generated a strong demand for more accurate mathematical descriptions of the processes. Especially, the coupling of computational fluid dynamics and chemical kinetics, combustion, and thermodynamics is of current interest in process oriented technology. This colloquium attempts to give examples of modelling efforts in operation in different universities, research institutes and companies
