GIS approach to cultural resources management and NEPA compliance

Argonne National Laboratory is currently assisting federal agencies with the development of computer-based resource management systems for large facilities, including cultural resources management and preservation. In the area of cultural resources, Argonne is using the GIS tool to demonstrate how federal facilities can manage large, complex databases, integrate cultural resource data with other environmental variables, model distributions of resources to aid in inventory and evaluation, link the data to quantitative and impact modes, and effectively manage and monitor resource planning activities and environmental compliance.
