A total of 15.2 million running bales were ginned during the 2011 season, down 14 percent from the 2010 season. There were 682 active cotton gins during the 2011 season, down from the 700 gins that operated in 2010. Forty-five percent of the gins processed more than 20,000 running bales compared with 49 percent the previous season.
