This was a newly-approved FASEB summer conference organized during 1998-1997 to211u001ebring together microbiologists, carbohydrate chemists, Immunologists, and 211u001evaccinologists from diverse disciplines to discuss the topic of microbial 211u001epolysaccharides. There was a superb mix of scientists from multiple fields, ands 211u001ecommon comment heard throughout the week was the wonderful opportunity the 211u001emeeting provided for interaction with individuals who one would otherwise never 211u001emeet. Since this was our first meeting the attendance was small (63 attendees) 211u001ebut was strongly felt to be high quality.
