HRTEM study of monoclinic phase in Mg-PSZ

摘要

The structure of monoclinic ZrO(sub 2) particles dispersed in MgO-partially-stabilized zirconia was examined using high resolution transmission electron microscope (HRTEM). The transformation product from tetragonal or orthorhombic to monoclinic usually comprises parallel variants of the monoclinic structure. The adjacent pairs of these variants are twin related and the twin boundaries are parallel either to (001)(sub m) or to (100)(sub m). It was found that the tetragonal and orthorhombic particles were usually partially transformed only. Contrary to the previous publications, no microcracks resulting from the transformation were observed in this system. 7 refs., 5 figs. (Atomindex citation 28:036092)
