A neural network approach to robotic thermoplastic tow placement process control

Thermoplastic tow placements is an emerging manufacturing technology that gives more flexibility in the achieved material quality and throughput. Especially in complex processes a control system is needed to minimize the production costs and maintain product quality. As a promising near-term, high-quality manufacturing technique robotic thermoplastic tow placement with on-line consolidation has been investigated at the University of Delaware’s Center for Composite Materials for several years( Butler et al. 1994 : Pitchumani et al. 1994;Steiner et al., 1995)
