Calculations are presented of the complex flowfield and flame characteristics in the near-wake region of an axisymmetric, bluff-body-stabilized research combustor fueled with a CH(sub 4) / CO mixture. The predictions have been made using a finite-volume based computer code (GTTURBO) which adopts the chemical equilibrium approximation to solve the Reynolds-averaged equations. Closure is obtained by using the k-(epsilon) turbulence model with the standard constants. The calculations are compared critically with available experimental data.
