Evaluation of The Ultimate R (Trade Name) attic duct insulation system

The report is an evaluation of the performance and cost effectiveness of the211u001eUltimate R attic duct insulation system. Ultimate R is an insulation containment 211u001esystem which is installed oversupply and return air ducts in attics. It is simple 211u001eand fast to install and facilitates the installation of substantial amounts of 211u001eblown insulation around the ducts. The result is reduced conductive and 211u001econvective losses from the ducting in summer and winter, both when the air 211u001ehandler is working and when it is not. This report covers energy savings results 211u001efrom three homes where the Ultimate R attic duct insulation system was installed; 211u001etwo in California and one in upstate New York. The objectives of the work were to 211u001egain installation knowledge for production of future training materials, as well 211u001eas to estimate energy savings resulting from the treatment. A fourth home in 211u001ePortland, Oregon was instrumented, monitored, and checked for possible moisture 211u001eproblems.
