Research and development is being performed on the knowledge-based IGENPRO211u001eoperator support package for plant transient diagnostics and management to 211u001eprovide operator assistance during off-normal plant transient conditions. A 211u001egeneric thermal-hydraulic (T-H) first-principlesapproach is being implemented 211u001eusing automated reasoning, artificial neural networks and fuzzy logic to produce 211u001ea generic T-H system-independent/ plant-independent package. The IGENPRO package 211u001ehas a modular structure composed of three modules: the transient trend analysis 211u001emodule PROTREN, the process diagnostics module PRODIAG and the process management 211u001emodule PROMANA. Cooperative research and development work has focused on the 211u001ePRODIAG diagnostic module of the IGENPRO packageand the operator training matrix 211u001eof transients used at the Braidwood Pressurized Water Reactor station. Promising 211u001esimulator testing results with PRODIAG have been obtained for the Braidwood 211u001eChemical and Volume Control System (CVCS), and the Component Cooling Water 211u001eSystem. Initial CVCS test results have also been obtained for the PROTREN module. 211u001eThe PROMANA effort also involves the CVCS. Future work will be focused on the 211u001elong-term, slow and mild degradation transients where diagnoses of incipient T-H 211u001ecomponent failure prior to forced outage events is required. This will enhance 211u001ethe capability of the IGENPRO system as a predictive maintenance tool for plant 211u001estaff and operator support.
