Simple quasi-dynamic model of a district heating system used for operational optimization

Equivalent models of DH (District Heating) systems are being developed and verified. The models will be used for operational optimization of DH systems. By nature this requires transient models of the DH network, however, some insight can be gained even from a steady state model of the DH network demonstrating the importance of the many parameters which are needed in the models. It has been shown that a simple model, i.e. one pipe - one bypass - one house, can be used for operational optimization, both in the steady state and in the transient case. What remains to be shown is how well this simple model can represent a whole district heating system. The optimization was carried out with MATLAB routines. (LN)
