General report on the results of the developmental research of fuel cell technology such as urban energy center.

Receiving subsidies from MITI, NEDO has been carrying out this project for seven years since fiscal 1991 as a joint research with Technology Research Association for Phosphoric Acid Fuel Cell Power Generation System and others. They tackled mainly the design/manufacture and operation study of 1) 5000kW class plant and 2) 1000kW class plant, and 3) the evaluation study of phosphoric acid fuel cell life and 4) the technical development for commercialization of residential/commercial use dispersed power source optimization system, and completed them at the end of fiscal 1998. 1) experienced various troubles, and did not reach to the verification of liability by long-term operation. However, the favorable result was that troubles were solved one by one and new information/knowledge were obtained, which is thought to be useful for the future technical development. In 2), the performance and reliability were verified. In 3), the course of the rational accelerated test method was clearly shown. In 4), a 3km class small reformer was developed. In combination with cells, the comprehensive evaluation was conducted, and a DC output of 3.3kW was obtained. Attached was a book of data on the design/operation in 1) and 2). 20 figs., 11 tabs.
