The popularity of the workshop stem from its scientific content, which emphasizes the fundamental aspects of science relevant to the industry problems, and the organizational format, which emphasizes discussions. With it updated tit and theme matching the issues at hand, the workshop appears to be particularly satisfying to industry. This year the title of the workshop was changed to the eighth Workshop on Crystalline Silicon Solar Cell Materials and Processes, aimed at emphasizing the increasing need to apply defect-engineering concepts in solar cell processing.
