LIAM: Integrating collaborative engineering and electronic commerce

Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL) is implementing an Internet-based211u001epilot project called Livermore Information And Methods (LIAM). LIAM provides need 211u001eto know access to engineering information and integrates collaborative 211u001eengineering environments with enterprise electronic commerce. Major benefits have 211u001eaccrued by using LIAM in facilitating industrial collaboration; speeding the 211u001eengineering development cycle, reducing procurement integration complexity, and 211u001elowering overall costs. Programs at LLNL are potentializing the efficiencies 211u001eintroduced since implementing LIAM. LLNLs pilot-production functionality is fully 211u001eintegrated with Business Systems, Finance, Vendors and Global-Partners to support 211u001emajor programs at the Laboratory. LIAM service leverages estensive previous work, 211u001eis sponsored by the Electronics Engineering Department, and operated by 211u001eAdministrative Information Systems at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory. 211u001eUsing commercial off the shelf (COTS) software, the service expedites access to 211u001einformation such as catalogs, engineering procedures, standards, CAD (Computer 211u001eAided Design) drawings, 3 dimensional models, and CAM (Computer Aided 211u001eManufacturing) files for Vendors and LLNL partners. LIAM s collaborative 211u001eenvironment offers heuristic text and metadata search, document-object control, 211u001eand project tasking. All information is security monitored, username-password 211u001eprotected, and encrypted to assure file-level access control. LIAM is a web-based 211u001eimplementation of the contractor integrated technical information service and is 211u001ebased upon concepts described in MIL-STD-974.
