Readiness Reviews: Key to Successfully Implementing Enterprise Systems

Sandia has implemented a formal process to verify that new or modified facilities211u001eand operations are ready to safely operate. The readiness review process focuses 211u001eon the status of management systems, personnel, and systems, structures, and 211u001ecomponents to do work safely. The scope and depth of the review are tailored to 211u001ematch the potential consequences and the likelihood that the consequences could 211u001eoccur. The precepts and methodology of the process are applicable to verifying 211u001ethe readiness of enterprise systems, and should comprise the final element in 211u001edeveloping and implementing an enterprise system. This paper describes the 211u001ereadiness review process, the key elements for success, lessons learned from 211u001eSandia's readiness assessment process, and outlines how the process can be 211u001eapplied to enterprise systems. Specific topics addressed include selecting the 211u001ecriteria, approach, and lines of inquiry to be used for the review; selecting 211u001emembers for the review team; team leader responsibilities; reporting and closing 211u001edeficiencies; and, responsibilities of the facility/project owner and management.
