Induced energy-saving innovation in industrial durable goods. Final report

The project has built on the theoretical framework and econometric approach211u001edeveloped by Newell (1997) and Newell, Jaffe, and Stavins (1999) and applied 211u001ethese techniques to investigate innovation in durable goods used for industrial 211u001eend uses. They developed a theoretical and empirical framework for estimating the 211u001eprice-sensitivity of changes in product characteristics resulting from 211u001einnovation, and applied the framework to improvements in the energy efficiency of 211u001eresidential/commercial heating and cooling equipment. They examined how the menu 211u001eof available energy-using capital goods has changed over time, and the extent to 211u001ewhich those changes appear to be related to relative price of energy and other 211u001eplausible factors, including regulation.
