Fire and furnace testing of transportation packages for radioactive materials:211 regulations and principles

This document provides background and information for performing a physical211u001ethermal test, using either a fire or a furnace, on transportation packages for 211u001eradioactive material. Thermal accident test conditions for all Type A and Type B 211u001epackages for the transport of radioactive material specified in Title 10, Code of 211u001eFederal Regulations, Part 71 are summarized. In addition, the thermal mechanisms 211u001ethat contribute to the total heat load during an accident are discussed. 211u001eInformation in this report can be appropriately applied to ensure that acceptable 211u001etest conditions and test results have been achieved for a particular package 211u001edesign.
