The formation of austenite at rapid heating rates is an important aspect of many211u001emetallurgical processing and fabricating schemes for steels. For example, hot 211u001eworking, heat treating, and welding all require of result in heating into the 211u001eaustenite or austenite plus ferrite phase fields. At the present time, there is 211u001ewidespread interest in modeling these processes as an aid in optimization and 211u001econtrol of post-process microstructure, properties and distortion. Additionally, 211u001ethese models will enable steel producers to identify optimized compositions and 211u001emicrostructures for various classes of applications.
