In recent years, an increasing demand for remediation technologies has fueled211u001erapid growth in the D&D technologies. The D&D project managers are now faced with 211u001ethe task of selecting from among the many commercially available and innovative 211u001etechnologies, the most appropriate technology, or combination of technologies, 211u001ethat will address their specific D&D needs. The DOE's Office of Science and 211u001eTechnology (OST) sponsored the Large-Scale Demonstration and Deployment Projects 211u001e(LSDDP) to demonstrate improved and innovative technologies that are potentially 211u001ebeneficial to DOE's environmental project. To date, three LSDDPS have been 211u001econducted at DOE's nuclear production and research facilities at the Fernald 211u001eEnvironmental Management Project--Plant-1 (FEMP), Chicago Pile-5 Research Reactor 211u001e(CP-5), and Hanford Production Reactor 105-C, Now four new LSDDPS have been 211u001elaunched at the Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL), Idaho National Engineering 211u001eand Environmental Laboratory (INEEL), Savannah River Site (SRS), and Mound 211u001eEnvironmental Management Project (MEMP). In the LSDDPS, an extensive search is 211u001efirst conducted to identify candidate technologies that can potentially address 211u001ethe identified problems The candidate technologies then go through a screening 211u001eprocess to select those technologies with the best potential for addressing 211u001eremediation problems at the LSDDP site as well as project sites across the DOE 211u001ecomplex. This selection process can be overwhelming and time-consuming. The 211u001eresult is that D&D project managers for the new LSDDPS are challenged to avoid 211u001eduplication of demonstrated technologies.
