摘要

An important parameter in characterizing an irradiated nuclear fuel is211u001edetermining the amount of uranium fissioned. By determining the amount of uranium 211u001efissioned in the fuel a burnup performance parameter can be calculated, and the 211u001eamount of fission products left in the fuel can be predicted. The quantity of 211u001euranium fissioned can be calculated from the amount of lanthanum and technetium 211u001epresent in the fuel. Lanthanum and technetium were measured in irradiated fuel 211u001esamples using an Inductively Coupled Plasma Atomic Emission Spectroscopy (ICP-211u001eAES) instrument and separation equipment located in a shielded glove-box. A 211u001ediscussion of the method, interferences, detection limits, quality control and a 211u001ecomparison to other work will be presented.
