The mission of the Institute for Fusion Studies has been to serve as a national211u001ecenter for theoretical fusion and plasma physics research. As an independent 211u001escientific group of critical size, its objectives were to conduct research on 211u001efundamental phenomena important to fusion; to serve as a center for fusion theory 211u001eexchange activities with other countries; to exchange scientific developments 211u001ewith other academic disciplines; and to train students and postdoctoral fellows 211u001ein fusion and plasma physics research.
