摘要

This report is to present the findings of the Chemical Compatibility Program211u001edeveloped for the evaluation of plastic transportation packaging components that 211u001emay be incorporated in packaging mixed-waste forms. Consistent with the 211u001emethodology outlined in this report, we have performed the second phase of this 211u001eexperimental program to determine the effects of simulant Hanford tank mixed 211u001ewastes on packaging liner materials. This effort involved the comprehensive 211u001etesting of five plastic liner materials in the aqueous mixed-waste simulant. The 211u001etesting protocol involved exposing the respective materials to approximately 140, 211u001e290, 570, and 3,670 krads of gamma radiation and followed by 7-, 14-,28-, 180-day 211u001eexposures to the waste simulant at 18, 50, and 60 degrees C. From the data 211u001eanalyses performed, we have identified the fluorocarbon Kel-F(Trademark) as 211u001ehaving the greatest chemical durability after having been exposed to gamma 211u001eradiation and followed by exposure to the Hanford tank simulant mixed waste. The 211u001emost striking observation from this study was the extremely poor performance of 211u001eTeflon(Trade Name) under the given test conditions.
