Resonant and non-resonant inelastic x-ray scattering in cugeo(sub 3)

Transition metal oxides are presently the focus of much attention in condensed211u001ematter physics because of the diverse phenomena exhibited by these materials. 211u001eExamples include antiferromagnetism, superconductivity and colossal 211u001emagnetoresistance. The origin of these phenomena lies in the strong electron 211u001ecorrelations present in these materials which place them between the well 211u001eunderstood limits of band insulators and simple metals. The presence of these 211u001ecorrelations makes these materials hard to handle theoretically, and there is a 211u001eneed for more detailed experimental work, in particular in regard to the 211u001eelectronic structure and excitations.
