Anomalous photon diffusion can be described as an ad hoc modification of thepopular 2-stream approximation, specifically the Eddington/diffusion version, for monochromatic radiative transfer in a scattering plane-parallel atmosphere. In the physical picture that describes the standard diffusion (hence the 2-stream) model, photons wander through horizontally infinite dense cloudy layers along convoluted random walks made of many short (theoretically Gaussian) steps.
