One of the important phenomena that thermal-hydraulic codes such as RELAP5 mustaccurately calculate is heat transfer between a fluid and solid. Currently all thermal-hydraulic safety codes use the finite-difference technique to solve the transient conduction equation. This paper will examine the effect of different nodalization strategies on the accuracy of the finite-difference solution of a transient conduction problem with one convective boundary condition and no internal heat generation. The paper concludes with recommendations for choosing an appropriate nodalization scheme for modeling conduction in a wall without internal heat generation.
