Development of Advanced Technologies to Reduce Design, Fabrication and Construction for Future Nuclear Power Plants. Year One Activities Report.

This report provides a summary of the Year One research activities of the Department of Energy's Nuclear Energy Research Initiative (NERI) project focused on development of technologies to reduce the capital costs and construction schedule time line for future nuclear power plants. The goals include the following: Identify those mechanisms that can be applied to reduce the overall cycle time for the Design, Procure, Construction, Installation and Testing (DPCIT) for an advanced nuclear plant by 40% and provide increased confidence in the overall process of ensuring an advanced nuclear project can be built within the cost and schedule targets assumed for a competitive energy marketplace.
