Methods for compositional analysis of fissile materials and radiaoctive waste are being developed to support characterization prior to treatment and remediation. This work focused on (1) ablation mechanisms and (2) the effect of the physical and chemical state of the sample (e.g., impurity concentration, particle morphology, and defect concentration) on the character of particles produced by laser ablation.
