Evaluation of Five Sedimentary Rocks Other Than Salt for Geologic Repository Siting Purposes

The Nuclear Waste Policy Act of 1982 requires the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) to site two geologic repositories for the disposal of high-level waste (HLW) and spent fuel. Studies are currently under way to locate sites suitable for a mined geologic repository in tuff, basalt, salt, and crystalline rocks.
