Improved Measurement of the Pseudoscalar Decay Constant F(D(S))

The authors present a new determination of f(sub D(sub s)) using 5 million e(sup+)e(sup -) c(bar c) events obtained with the CLEO II detector. Their value is derived from their new measured ratio(Lambda)(D(sub s)(sup+)(yields)(mu) (sup+)(nu))/(Lambda)(D(sub s)(sup+)(yields)(phi)(pi)(sup+))= 0.173(+-) 0.021(+-) 0.031. Using (Beta)(D(sub s)(sup+)(yields)(phi)(pi)(sup+))= (3.6(+-) 0.9)%, they extract f(sub D(sub s))= (280(+-) 17(+-) 25(+-) 34) MeV. They compare this result with various model calculations.
