QUARTER-POINT GAS INTRODUCTION SCHEME FOR HELIUM COOLED PLANT

The engineering problems involved in a proposal to alter the helium cooled pile design so as to introduce the cold helium at the top, bottom and middle of the pile, and to remove hot helium from quarter-points of the pile are discussed. The main reason for this procedure is that it might give a lower average temperature of the pile than the straight series flow.nThe conclusion of the study is that the temperature would not be lowered substantially, and that the only other considerable advantage is the reduced pressure drop.
