ANALYSIS OF CONSTITUENTS AND IMPURITIES IN BC13

The methods used for the analysis of BCl3 are described in report A-1267 (C. N. Judson, Kay 1, 1944). The iodimetric determination of Cl2 and the gravimetric determination of SiCl4 are also described in that paper. In the present report, the complete analysis of BCl3 will be described.nThe method used for the determination of B and Cl remains unchanged. An improved technique for sampling easily hydrolyzed liquids has been adopted, however. The dry sample tube is drawn out to a capillary which is bent into a U shape and inserted into the liquid to be sampled. Liquid air is applied to the bottom of the sample tube and the liquid is pulled over by suction. The liquid is frozen solid and the tube sealed off.
