THE EFFECT OF ZINC NITRATE ON THE DISTRIBUTION COEFFICIENT IN ETHER EXTRACTION

A study of the effect of this salt was accomplished by extract-ing solutions containing varying concentrations of tine nitrate and a constant uranyl nitrate concentration. These solutions were prepared from a standard stock solution of Zn(NO3)2.6H2O. After extracting solutions of 100 ml volume with equal volumes of diethyl ether, the uranium in the ether phase was determined volumetrically by converting to the sulfate, re¬ducing in a Jones reductor, and titrating with ceric sulfate.
