THE CRITICAL SIZE OF A CYLINDRICAL PILE HAVING A VERTICAL TEMPERATURE GRADIENT

The critical dimensions of a cylindrical pile with a vertical temperature gradient are calculated. If the temperature gradient is of the order of 5°/cm, approximately the value contemplated for the BeO pile, then the critical dimensions may be calculated by assuming that the temperature of the pile is constant and equal to its arithmetical mean.
