A water seal has been developed to prevent vapor leakage out of the mixer shaft standpipes of a horizontal mixer-settler type extractor. Tests have been conducted to determine if a seal with a one inch head of water would be satisfactory for stirrers revolving at 1000 RFM.nThe apparatus used for testing was constructed essentially of glass - Plexiglas being used on the bottom of the outer cylinder and top of rotating member.
