THE HOT LABORATORY AT BROOKHAVEN NATIONAL LABORATORY

The hot laboratory at Brookhaven National Laboratory has been specifically designed and built to handle and process multicarrier amounts of radioactive materials. It is operated by a permanent staff in such a way that others can also use the various facilities required for this type of work. A wide variety of facilities is available, and use is already being made of them as indicated by the scope of the research and operations program presently under way. The general philosophy used in designing the building is outlined and the facilities themselves are described in detail.
