SUMMARY OF URANIUM-BEARING COAL, LIGNITE, AND CARBONACEOUS SHALE INVESTIGATIONS IN THE ROCKY MOUNTAIN REGION DURING 1951

Six areas in the western United States containing uraniferous coal, lignite, and carbonaceous shale have been examined in some detail to out¬line the potential uranium resources and mode of occurrence of uranium-bearing carbonaceous sediments. The potential resources in the areas examined range from 350, 000, 000 tons of coal containing 20, 000 tons of uranium in the Red Desert area of Wyoming to 200, 000 tons of lignite con¬taining 20 tons of uranium in the Lodge pole area of South Dakota.
