SUBSTITUENT EFFECTS ON THE SPECTRA AND IONIZATION CONSTANTS OF DIAROYLMETHANES

A series of meta and para-substituted dibenzoylmethanes have been, prepared in the course of a program for the systematic correlation of struc¬ture with the chelating properties of organic compounds. The diketones have been studied by both infrared and ultraviolet spectra and their acidity constants have been measiired in 75 per cent dioxane-water.
