THE REMOVAL OF FLUORIDE FROM AMMONIUM DIURANATE FILTER IN A FLUIDIZED BED FURNACE

Results are presented on the use of a fluidized bed furnace to remove fluorides from ammonium diuranate filter cake. The effects (on the rate of fluoride removal) of fluoride content of the feed, temperature of calcinations, detention time, pellet size, and water addition during calcinations have been noted, as has the digestability of the claimed filter cake under Refinery process conditions. These test results have been used to "design" a commercial-size reactor for Scrap Plant use. The design calculations indicate the need for further work on the method of feed preparation before a fluidized bed is installed.
