Radioactivity Levels of the Columbia River Below Richland, Washington for the Period October, November, December 1953

The radioactivity levels of Columbia River water and mud are summarized for the area below Richland, Washington. There is a general and gradual decrease in the activity density of beta particle emitters of the river water at the downstream stations. The activity density of alpha particle emitters in Columbia River water averaged less than 5 x 10 sup -9 mu c/cc at all locations. The average activity density of beta particle emitters in mud samples is similar to that of previous periods. 5 refs., 2 tabs.
