摘要

Very little is known about the constitution and physical metallurgy of the Mn-Ni alloy system. There is evidence of solid state reactions in the system, and to properly develop e procedure for preparing, fabricating and heat treating the alloy would first have required an extensive physical metallurgy study. (Knowledge gained from such a study would undoubtedly have explained the peculiar and erratic mechanical effects often observed in the alloy and would have led to a means for controlling them) Unfortunately wo did not have sufficient funds, manpower or time to undertake 3uch a study nor to give any significant amount of technical attention to the development of an optimum fabrication process. Rather the emphasis was on producing batches of the brazing wire to fill the KAPL needs'. The procedures we have used were arrived at very empirically and are by no means the best that one would hope for, either from a metallurgical or a manufacturing standpoint.
